How does this product support immune system function?

Vitamin C affects several components of the immune system and plays a role in neutrophil action required for efficient immune system function.1 Vitamin C is highly concentrated in leukocytes and is consumed rapidly during infection; reduced levels of vitamin C in leukocytes are associated with reduced immune function.2, 3 T cell maturation is promoted by vitamin C.4 Vitamin C can protect lymphocytes from oxidative stress and support the body’s antioxidant defense system as it relates to T cells and T cell responsiveness.5 Vitamin C can support the body’s mechanisms for protecting against oxidative stress because of the vitamin’s chemical structure. This support manifests in numerous ways, including scavenging reactive oxygen species6 and raising intracellular glutathione levels.7*

What ingredients support healthy connective tissue and bone?

One role of vitamin C is to promote the biosynthesis,8 integrity,9 and maintenance10 of collagen, the connective tissue that cements the cells of the body together. Several studies indicate that vitamin C may support bone health in various populations, such as elderly men11 and young athletes.12 Vitamin C may indirectly protect the vascular endothelium due to actions such as smooth-muscle cell relaxation and vasodilatation.13 Vitamin C also plays a crucial role in formation of endothelial tissue.14*

What ingredients provide antioxidant activity?

Vitamin C plays an integral role in the protection of DNA, proteins, lipids, and carbohydrates from normal oxidative changes caused by everyday life. Vitamin C contributes to the maintenance of the redox integrity of cells and protection against reactive oxygen species generated during respiratory burst and inflammatory response.15 Vitamin C also reinforces and extends the antioxidant potential of other vitamins, participates in metabolism of folic acid,16 and facilitates iron absorption by enhancing the availability and absorption of iron from non-heme iron sources.17*

How does this product support the adrenal glands?

Vitamin C plays a crucial role in the function of both the adrenal cortex and adrenal medulla.18 Glandular extracts support the adrenal glands.19*
